Metrology & Characterization

Measure what matters

At BioNexus, precision and quality are foundational to everything we build. Our metrology capabilities offers a robust suite of analytical and inspection tools tailored to the unique demands of microfluidic consumables, surface coatings, and fluidic systems. We blend cutting-edge equipment with deep scientific expertise to ensure our components meet the highest standards of dimensional accuracy, surface performance, and fluidic functionality. Whether qualifying prototype parts or running production QC, our metrology services are designed to support rapid iteration, regulatory alignment, and scientific rigor.

Engineering Measurements

Automated 2D & 3D Optical Dimensional CMM
High-resolution, non-contact coordinate measurement machines (CMMs) enable microscale accuracy across complex geometries. We support automated batch measurement for high throughput and repeatability.

Flow Cell Gap Height & Flatness
Critical for microfluidic device function and precise in-focus imaging over large areas. Our interferometric and optical profilometry methods characterize channel heights and surface planarity with microscale precision across large surface areas.

Surface Roughness
We quantify micro- and nanoscale surface textures using profilometry and white light interferometry, ensuring functional interfaces for fluid flow, bonding, and biological interactions.

Film Adhesion
Using standardized peel tests and customized mechanical assays, we evaluate the integrity of coatings and thin films across polymers, glass, and other substrates.

Fluidic Pressure, Flow, and Exchange
Through specialized test rigs and calibrated flow sensors, we measure the pressure-flow characteristics of microchannels, valves, and tubes. We also assess mixing efficiency and fluid exchange time in complex geometries using dyes.

Pressure / Leak Testing
Using pneumatic, hydraulic, or vacuum-based protocols, we detect leaks and quantify burst pressure thresholds to validate the integrity of fluidic paths, seals, and interconnects.

Surface Characterization

Custom Assays for Surface Functionality
We develop tailored assays to quantify specific (e.g., biotin-streptavidin, Amine-NHS, Azide-DBCO, and customer assay specific dyes and labels) and non-specific binding (e.g., labeled BSA, labeled oligos, customer specific dyes or labels) to surfaces. These are essential for validating capture efficiency and surface passivation.

Optical & Fluorescence Scanning Microscopy
High-resolution fluorescence scanning enables us to visualize spatial patterns of surface functionalization, binding uniformity, and defects across chips.

Contact Angle Measurement
By analyzing the behavior of liquid droplets on surfaces, we determine surface energy, wettability, and homogeneity—key metrics for adhesion, coating uniformity, and functionalization quality.
